Roxanna Lewis is a celebrated and spirited international director, choreographer, filmmaker, producer and writer. Roxanna intuitively crafts understanding of the human experience; expertly translating it to the page, stage & screen. Roxanna believes in unapologetic artistic expression that creates dialogue, joins people together and helps audiences broaden their everyday experience. This core belief inspired her to create ROXXIEDANZ PRODUCTIONS INC.
Roxanna’s expressive roots were initially honed through the timeless, international language of dance and acting. Extensive acting and performance credits are available upon request. Her ground-breaking choreography is archived in the prestigious Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts (NYC) and chronicled by the extraordinary Action Painter Terry Rosenberg. In the USA, Roxanna's broader work has been seen on Broadway and off-Broadway and produced by prestigious venues including The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, US Department of Agriculture, New Amsterdam Theater, Symphony Space, The Taipei Theater, P.S. 122, HERE Arts Center, Theatre for the New City, 92nd St Y, Broward Center for the Performing Arts (FL) and the VSA International Art & Soul Festival (LA). Internationally, Roxanna's work has toured France, Germany, Scotland, Guatemala, Italy, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong with feature stories on BBC-TV, ABC-TV and Moscow Television.
Roxanna’s artistic portfolio expands into music videos for SONY’s multi-platinum group Manic Street Preachers, Latin-pop artists VOZ on Rock Records as well as large-scale live commercial industrials for Dow Chemical, National Salute to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Meridian Development directly working with and coaching A-list celebrities for public appearances and performances.
Grants and awards include an Individual Artist Grant from The Community First Cares Foundation and Art Ventures/ The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida; Artist in Residency at Ponte Vedra Ballet & Company/ FUSION Performing Arts and Theatre Jacksonville; additional support from the Harkness Choreographers' Space Grant at Purchase College NY (6 consecutive years), and Judson Memorial Church Space Grant (NYC).
As a writer, Roxanna received the honor and invitation to contribute as a trusted creative and editor working closely with Emmy Award winning actor and director, Ben Gazzara on his autobiography, In the Moment: My Life as an Actor and currently writing with Dr. Marcia Greenleaf on a book about the healing forces of the mind-body connection.
As director, Roxanna’s innate understanding of storytelling, composition and visceral elements of emotion & motion shine through for TV/Film & digital projects with ROXXIEDANZ PRODUCTIONS INC. Currently, her dramatic short film The Crossing, starring Cote de Pablo and Vivienne Leheny, is being screened nationally in film festivals with several other films in production and development. Theatre directorial credits include: String Theory Scotland Edinburgh Fringe Festival (premiere), rock-opera La Caroline/ Florida premiere/ toured to France & selected by CAP 21 development workshop/ NYC, and the world premiere of Home for the Holidays I and Home for the Holidays II at Six Flags America. Other favorites include an award-winning productions of Peter and the Starcatcher, Silent Sky, The Whipping Man, The Triangle Fire Factory Project and Ti-Jean Blues. Roxanna’s visual story-telling extends beyond traditional genres and venues to include collaborations for site-specific work and art installations. Collaboration is currently underway with acclaimed artist Susan Abbott for El Camino: An Artist's Walk Through Time.
Having earned her BFA in Dance at SUNY Purchase, Roxanna taught at the prestigious Steps on Broadway (NYC) and numerous NYC area studios. She’s also adjudicated in the US and Canada for dance and theatrical competitions and events. Roxanna’s held positions as Adjunct Professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FL) and led numerous workshops in acting and dance at Universities, Colleges and High Schools across the US. As Associate Director of the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre, Roxanna helped establish the Summer & Winter Dance Intensives for the New York Dance Institute. In Maryland, she was then hand-picked to initiate a Dance Program for St. Vincent Pallotti High School, as well as for the Montgomery County Council for the Arts as Teaching Artist for the esteemed ELO-SAIL program. Her progressive curriculum emphasized Dance, Story-telling and Theater to teach principles of Math, Science and History to Title 1 elementary school children.
